Very interesting post! I guess no one really wants to read a book where the person is not going through any sort of struggle. And struggle more often than not equals heartbreak.

Prep was a really good book! In writing this comment, I thought of Born Confused, the Nanny Diaries, Devil Wears Prada...they don't perfectly fit your description, but come pretty close I think!

Very interesting post :) No doubt I'll be wracking my brain all weekend trying to think of more books!

I appreciate your thoughts on this often overlooked issue. I think you might enjoy my site as a result, it's called Rhymes and Reasons. It is a series of interviews with hip-hop heads who discuss their lives in the context of a few songs that matter to them. The interviews often discuss racism, sexism, white privilege, sexual violence, etc. Pretty powerful stuff.

I almost recommended the Steve Jobs bio as a joke, but he goes through a terrible breakup, cancer and death as a husband, and a very public knockup of a college girlfriend.

I think you proved a point with this post.
